Trailer Maintenace
How frequently do boat trailer wheel bearings need maintenance?
Grease your trailer bearings every 3 months or every 1,000 miles—whichever comes first. The only exception to this schedule is when you tow the trailer a long distance and immediately submerge the hot hubs in cold water without allowing them to cool. This sudden temperature change can cause water to be drawn into the hub.
To counter this, promptly grease the hub using the grease zerk located behind the rubber grommet at the hub’s center. This action forces out any infiltrated water through the front of the hub.
Important: Use only Lithium Complex NLGI#2 grease.
We recommend:
- Castrol Pyroplex Red
- Lucas Red ‘n’ Tacky
- Lucas Marine Grease (blue)
Additionally, bearings and seals should be removed, inspected, and replaced as needed every 12 months—regardless of mileage.
