How do I install my Fulton Bolt-on Hinge Kit?

Installation Instructions

What are the safety precautions to follow before installing a fulton bolt on hinge kit?

  • Read, understand, and follow all tool manufacturers’ safety instructions.
  • Always wear safety glasses and protective gloves.
  • Use a jack stand (not the trailer jack) to support the tongue.
  • Chock all tires/wheels to ensure stable working conditions on the trailer.
  • Do not mount any accessories to the Fold-Away tongue (i.e., jack, spare tire carrier, winch stand).
  • Remove any wiring and brake lines from the trailer tongue before cutting or drilling. Upon completion of installation, re-route and connect all wiring/lines properly.
  • Use only the mounting hardware supplied for installing the Fold-Away tongue.

How do I ensure the correct installation and use of the fold-away coupler/bracket kit?

  • Follow all instructions provided in the installation manual.
  • Ensure that the product is installed according to the instructions and do not alter or modify the product.
  • Never position any part of the body under any portion of the product or the load being supported.
  • Do not allow children to play on or around the product or the load being supported.
  • Never exceed the maximum rated capacity of the coupler, actuator, trailer, or pivot length/GTWR.
  • Mount Fold-Away products only on trailer tongues made of steel with specified dimensions and material thickness.
  • All welding must be performed by a certified AWS welder.

What should I check before towing with a fold-away coupler/bracket kit?

  • Inspect the swing tongue for signs of wear or damage.
  • Ensure safety chains are long enough for tight turns but not dragging and are properly connected to the towing vehicle and trailer (crossed, right to left and left to right).
  • Check that all trailer lighting is hooked up and working correctly.
  • Ensure wiring is properly connected but loose enough to make turns without disconnecting or damage, and that it is not dragging and clear of safety chains.
  • Verify that wiring and brake lines are not pinched between hinges when pivoting the coupler.
  • Confirm that the pivot bolt/locknut and hinge pin/hairpin cotter pin are installed and secured with the coupler in the towing position before towing.
  • Contact the trailer manufacturer for replacement labeling removed from the trailer during installation.
